Release Management

Handle changes to search as manageable releases.

A small adjustment to a ranking rule or index configuration can affect many searches. Release management makes visible what changes, how quality is checked in advance, and when a change can be safely introduced more broadly.

Capture change scope

Document code, index fields, models, synonyms, ranking and merchandising rules that change. Include involved stores and dependencies. This way, a deviation after going live can be quickly linked to a concrete change.

Quality Controls

Test fixed representative searches, zero-result searches, filters and key categories before release. Compare results with an agreed baseline and also check response time and error rate. Only technical success is insufficient when relevance deteriorates.

Phased input

Start with a limited store, language or traffic group where possible. Do not increase the range until the pre-selected signals remain stable. A phased introduction reduces risk and provides information before all visitors experience the change.

Review after live walk

Determine in advance which readings, search queries and time period are used for the decision to continue. Also establish concrete recovery criteria. Without pre-agreed boundaries, too long discussion is held while customer impact increases.

Search management

Make reliability part of daily management.

Discuss which measurements, responsibilities and restoration routes fit your online stores and technical environment.
