Incident management

First, limit the customer impact and then investigate the full cause.

In a search incident, speed counts, but uncontrolled changes can increase the problem. A fixed approach helps teams delineate the impact, choose a safe temporary solution and then structurally improve it.

Classifying impact

Distinguish between total outages, slow responses, poor relevance, outdated product data, and missing analytics. Note which stores, languages, devices and features have been touched. This demarcation determines the severity and prevents everyone from working on a different problem.

Ownership and temporary solution

Designate one coordinator and choose the fastest safe way to reduce customer impact. This can be a recovery version, easier search method, or temporary shutdown of an optional feature. Keep evidence for investigation without unnecessarily delaying recovery.

Focused communication

Agree in advance how often the status is updated and who informs internal and external stakeholders. Indicate what is known, what impact is seen and when a next update will follow. Avoid speculation about a cause as long as it has not been confirmed.

Evaluate and improve

After recovery, record the timeline, cause, contribution of processes and missed signals. Translate lessons into better checks, tests or playbooks with an owner and date. The goal is not to blame, but to prevent recurrence and recover faster.
